As if life couldn’t get any better! This aspect of my career is perhaps the most rewarding of all. Some years back, I started writing a regular monthly column for a now defunked motorcycle touring magazine. Little did I know that my then mini adventure in writing would erupt into a full scale voyage of discovery, travel and knowledge with a huge helping of fun as an added bonus. It is without doubt the best job in the entire world- well, apart from being the British Superbike grid reporter . . .
So imagine me sitting in my dressing room, in a theatre in York, dressed as Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. (I’m guessing you have either a totally bewildered, or very amused expression on your face right now) and my mobile rings.
It was the first of several calls from newspaper editors expressing an interest in me writing bike reviews for them.
I’m now the motorcycle correspondent for The Sun and Sunday Times Newspapers. Every Friday we have a page in the Sun called Biker which offers you bike reviews, information and features, as well as keeping you abreast of biking news etc via Vic Mayhew’s Pit Stops column.
I also supply the Press Association with a weekly bike review and work on a freelance basis for foreign Motorcycle magazines. In addition to that, I hold a RoSPA Diploma to teach advanced Motorcycling, not that there appears to be enough days in the week to fit that in too!
Needless to say, ITV’s British Superbikes and my work as a journalist, go hand in hand and both jobs compliment each other perfectly . . . hooning around Knockhill after BSB’s Round 8, with Niall Mackenzie on a Rizzla’d K6 is a perfect example wouldn’t you say!

Niall put me through my paces at Knockhill on a standard GSX R 1000. It’s such a demanding track . . but huge fun!
Rossi’s RC211V. I still can’t believe I actually rode this, Valentino Rossi’s 2002 winning RC211V!
During a track launch to Qatar for Aprilia, I tested the RSV 1000R. It’s such a flat and featureless track, but I totally enjoyed tearing round it!
Simon Pavy’s Ladies only, Off Road Skills Course day in Wales had me hooning around the countryside with a bunch of fellow minded gals . . what a giggle! Pictures by Jonty Edmunds
I guess this is one way to get to grips with Donnington race track, by gripping Ron Harlem for dear life on a CBR 1000 RR pillion ride!
Yep you’ve guessed it, I weally wanna wheelie . . hence a day out at Jimmy Fireblade’s Wheelie School.
This was the first of many launches, Harley Davidson’s Street Rod in San Diego. And it was also the first of many self inflicted pinches -Yes this is a real job, no I am not dreaming, I am not dreaming.
